Module 1- Transportation and Leisure

If there is one thing that we all enjoy more than anything it's leisure time. For most people a trip to the beach, to the movies, or just a drive in the country seems to put the pressure of everyday life aside.

In the early years of transportation, entertainers traveled from town to town presenting plays and putting on concerts, and people would come from miles around to be entertained. In many rural areas, it was not uncommon for people to attend only one event per year or even less. Today, we think nothing of getting into our cars and going out one or more times a week.

Transportation has played such an important role in the life of all people that entertainers have often written songs and plays on the subject. Some of these have ranged from train songs such as the "Wabash Cannon Ball" to songs of racing such as "Little Deuce Coupe".

The University of Alabama'a Society of Women Engineers recently took part in a mini-baha competition held at Auburn University. As part of the competition, they designed and built their own mini racer. Click here for a slide show of how they did it.
