Load the CD into your server's drive, and drag the entire folder named ALPanFluEPK7-8 to where it is to ultimately reside on your server.
All files required for these presentations and their ancillary files are in the ALPanFluEPK7-8 folder. Do NOT change the folder names or change the relative positions of the files and folders within the ALPanFluEPK7-8 folder, as doing so will prevent the presentations from working properly or at all, and/or will prevent access to the ancillary files.
All presentation and ancillary files may be accessed via the main interface page (index.html). When the ALPanFluEPK7-8 folder is installed on your server, the location of this interface page will be <Intranet server address and path to the folder>/ALPanFluEPK7-8/index.html
We recommend changing your monitor's screen resolution to 800 x 600 pixels before making presentations with this software, so the presentations will fill the screen.
We also recommend closing out of any other applications running on the presenting computer before accessing the main interface page, other than the web browser that will be used for these presentations.
Because firewall software installed on the presenting computer can interfere with playing the presentations, we recommend that any firewall software be disabled (and the computer restarted if necessary) before accessing these presentations.
Before presenting, we recommend you test the presentations on your present hardware/operating system/browser/Flash Player configuration. If you experience problems during the testing of the presentations, we recommend upgrading your Flash Player at one of the sites listed above in the "About Flash Player" section.

The Read Me document is an HTML screen that will appear in your browser. The Leader's Guide, Handouts and License Agreement PDF files will launch Adobe Reader when the links are clicked. The Leader's Guide may be printed out for the presenter's use; the Handouts may be given out for audience members to use.
Clicking a presentation link on the main interface page will bring you to a presentation page. On these pages you will be able to launch each section of that presentation. The 60- and 45-minute presentations have three sections each; the 30-minute version has two sections.
Clicking on the link to a section will allow you to begin the presentation (see "Giving the Presentations," below).
To begin a section, click the large round "forward/pause" button located at the bottom of the screen. Bulleted talking points and animations will appear in synchronization with the narration. At the end of each slide the narration will stop, allowing you to field questions or elaborate on that slide's content.
To advance to the next slide, click the forward/pause button (which will be glowing, making it easier to spot and click) and the narration will begin automatically.
You may pause the narration and slide animation whenever you wish—for example, to answer questions from the audience, lead a discussion or provide additional information. Click the forward/pause button to stop, then click the same button to restart from where you left off. Or, to restart from the beginning of the slide, click the back button (which returns you to the previous slide) and then click the forward/pause button.
At the end of each section, the narrator will prompt you to close the current window and return to the presentation's main menu to begin the next section.
The volume control button is at the bottom of each screen, toward the left. The volume of the presentation may be adjusted on the presentation interface by clicking on the speaker symbol and adjusting the slider control that pops up. Note: this control on the presentation interface may be superseded by the host computer's volume control.
You can print a copy of the Leader's Guide by clicking on the link to the Leader's Guide on the main index page. With the Leader's Guide you'll have key information at your fingertips. For example, it allows you to view the full narration for each slide, in addition to a miniature image of the actual slide. It enables you to use such interactive features as the Follow-Up Questions, Background Information and Notes sections, as well as the various presenter prompts (see pages 8-9 of the Leader's Guide for more information). You can also reference the Key Sources used to support slide content (see page 9 of the Leader's Guide).
You can print a copy of the Handouts by clicking on the link to the Handouts on the main index page. There are seven in total: two surveys and 5 activities. If you plan to distribute them to audience members during your presentation, be sure to have enough copies.
You may want to give people a copy of Survey #1 as they arrive. Ask them to fill it out. You can use these surveys in one of 2 ways:
The other Handouts (#1–#5) may be distributed during the presentation. They can help enhance students' learning by reinforcing the presentation's main points.
In presentation situations where there is no ability to make a connection to a school's intranet, the CD itself may be used to give the presentation.
